Gender DynamiX- "Creative Instructions..."
Project Description: To explore and teach the architecture and development process of my own work, Creative lnstructions. Performance Description: Each performer portrays a distinct story about their LGBTI experience and faith. The 3 cast members largely perform material in their own words. Video, dance and music round out the show. The performance is primarily in English with a limited amount of Xhosa. Training Methods: Creative Instructions was developed using Fitzmaurice Voicework. In this workshop Fitzmaurice Voicework is used at tool to release the body, the intellect and open creative impulses, language and emotions that are hidden in the body.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the workshop each participant will be able to-
• Understand the connection between experience, body and breath holds and release • Understand the connection between the body and breath • Utilize Fitzmaurice Voicework to release the body • Reference a visual map that shows the varying states and the ‘instructions’ that their personal stories give their bodies • Improve flexibility, tension management, and increase their individual movement vocabulary. • Write material that they feel tells their story
Workshop Content Week 1 • Introductions • How the is stopped/freed by experience • Home work- Bring in the song in your heart Week 2 • Breaking the Ice • Freeing the Body • Feeling the breath in the moving body • Fitzmaurice Introduction (first two positions) • Presentation of Song Week 3- No meeting Week 4 • Freeing the Body • Fitzmaurice (first three positions) • Home work explore your safe place be prepared to present it at next meeting Week 5 • Freeing the Body • Fitzmaurice (first three positions) • Safe place presentation and song in your heart presentation • Establishing the Opening of Performance Week 6 • Freeing the Body • Fitzmaurice (first three positions) • The Language of Touch (feeling safety and comfort) • Review the Opening of Performance • Voicework for performance • Homework- Bring in your story of experience in an environment that challenges / changes you. Week 7 • Freeing the Body • Fitzmaurice (supine positions) • Exploring the outside world/automatic writing exercises • Developing an Ensemble • Reading of writing exercises • Building vocal skills for performance • Homework- Bring in your story of experience in an environment that challenges / changes you.
